i've lurked and poasted since 2008. my bff is a poaster from back in law school and we speak in xo memes all the time. you wouldn't know him either. poasting's appeal to me is quasi-anonymous discussion and shooting the shit. i don't recognize monikers 90% of the time to this day, and most of xo's content is inter-xo shit that has no interest to me. if it was 2019 gunner and i saw this thread i wouldn't click on it, because i would have no idea what is being discussed. i'd read the top threads and news threads and sometimes make a comment but it was rare.
around 2021 i wound up in a very kooky situation with a BPD chick that provided fodder for content (vodka gf occurred when i was on one of our many). this was also covid so i was working from home exclusively and most non-screen activities were banned. i also lived with her and her BPD antics were so crazy i got self-conscious about telling my friends about them because they'd just say "just leave her wtf." they were objectively funny, but not to the people close to me, so i needed an outlet and found it on xo. over time, assisted by covid screenworld forcing me to be on a screen most of the day anyway, i fell deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole. now i'm trying to ween myself off because i still don't really care about Online world beyond anonymous poasting and being tangled in various poaster arcs and shit is extremely lame and gay. i just want to read good content that is independently funny and read about news and politics to get the takes you rarely find anywhere else. |
