I worry that he's in a unique position between older, more uptight boomer commentary who are solid, but don't add anything special (Troy Aikman is a good example of this) and YouTube generation commentators who will be zany and grating.
He's also in an unusual position of having more and better football knowledge than just about anyone alive, extraordinary personal success using the knowledge, and the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate using that knowledge without stepping on the game. There aren't a lot of guys who will be able to bring that to the table. Romo is an ok example of it, but he's as annoying as he is insightful. |
