But if you're not really gung ho about your career, not a bad move.

seriously, there was a thread comparing vandy to conrell a while back. while it's arguable whether cornell>vandy in the south, cornell, vandy, and usc are 3 power house schools for the ne, se, and west cost respectively. nd has little reach, even in the mid west.

I dont think its the end of the world if there's money and location involved.

But yes, from everything I've seen, those 3 schools are a step above ND. How far is up for debate, but its a step, part. in the area of faculty quality.

Very few people going into law school express a desire for Biglaw. Many are idealistic and want to get into nonprofit work, or think that the midlaw/small-law route will suffice.

However, when you see many of your classmates interviewing for Biglaw, and the reality of loans and/or big bucks sets in, you'll be tempted by Biglaw.

The OP needs to realize that the point of law school is to give one's self the most options. Everyone enters law school wanting to save the world, or just make enough money to be comfortably middle class. Everyone leaves either with Biglaw, or wishing they were heading to Biglaw. So what if this guy still wants to do Midlaw at graduation - he'll be a lot happier (and will have a lot more Midlaw options) if he's in a position (via school and grades) to turn down Biglaw than he would be otherwise.

A lot of my friends who did the midlaw route did a Biglaw summer associateship to confirm to themselves that Biglaw was not for them (but wanted to have the option to do Biglaw in case they liked it).

u haven't learned shit from aleksey vayner. if u gonna dance, u best do that shit with passion. and if gonna do law school, u better do it big. ND ain't big time. unless they're giving u a lot of money or unless (as suggested above) ur fucking a hot model that won't leave southbend (that scenario really stretches it), ur just wasting ur own time by goin to ND.

I wanted big law in a particular city, I'm close to the median, and I got a good job. I have no work experience and went to an unimpressive UG.

YSH don't do so well on the NLJ survey... because their grads do clerkships I assume. At ND, there are also a large number of people that look for alternatives to big firms.

I'm just saying for a person at the median at ND, biglaw (in a secondary market--home market) was quite attainable. I had multiple offers. I got my first choice.

They have 11 people going into circuit clerkships next year. That's nearly 10% of the class. It tends to hurt their NLJ rankings.
