Girls in Video Games vs. Girls IRL
Poast new message in this thread
Date: August 26th, 2008 10:19 PM Author: indigo becky principal's office Why is it so uncommon to find a real-life woman with the heroism, character, and dignity of a Terra, Celes, Faris, Marle, or Lucca? Such women exist so prominently in video games, but are so rare in this desert we call IRL. Instead, we have millions of Sex-and-the-City clones. Why? I'm tempted to quit this module called IRL; it's badly written, and hasn't been updated since the '70s. It's just a matter of time before the thing breaks under the weight of its spaghetti legacy code. (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=848883&forum_id=2#10099751) |

Date: August 26th, 2008 10:54 PM Author: Purple Bespoke Keepsake Machete Terra: clearly not interested in men, ahem. Celes: suicidal rich brat. Faris: uncouth and manly. Probably smart, though. Marle: seems 14, daddy issues. Lucca: coke-bottle glasses, weird relationship with a robot. |
|
Date: August 26th, 2008 11:06 PM Author: indigo becky principal's office Terra: I could convince her. Trust me on this one.
Celes: She spent a year on a small island with a dying man! Give her a break.
Faris: Perhaps.
Marle: This has more to do with the limited amount of time Ted Woolsey had to translate her than anything else.
Lucca: Ok. |

Well, you are pretty feminine... |

Date: August 27th, 2008 7:55 AM Author: indigo becky principal's office How so? Is it my tendency to wear purple clothing, muttering about "the black wind"? Is it the fact that my cat is named Alfador? Is it my weird relationship with my magically-gifted older sister?
You should see me as an adult, after having traveled 12600 years into the future and perfected my talents. I'm pretty badass these days. I summon and slaughter world-killing alien hedgehogs for the lulz. |

Date: August 27th, 2008 8:15 AM Author: honey-headed center sound barrier This is a really mean characterization. Terra's too busy for men. Celes is awesome, but clearly has a thing for Locke.
Faris is probably flat-chested. How else is she able to fit into 22 different suits? |
|
Date: August 27th, 2008 8:21 AM Author: indigo becky principal's office Interesting point about Faris and the class changes. She must also be changing clothes in front of Butz and Galuf an awful lot. Somewhere out there is a terrible fanfic about this.
Why Celes/Locke? Locke has an overblown chivalrous bent and a flair for women in distress. Celes is domineering and stronger than he is. It wouldn't work, unless they could roleplay the scene where he un-handcuffs her. |

Date: August 26th, 2008 10:43 PM Author: indigo becky principal's office You're right, but it's important to be cautious. There's a thing called the Halloween Theorem, which states that the nastiness of a girl is *directly* (rather than inversely, as one might assume) to the sweet/innocent properties of the costume... but I don't think that applies to cosplay. I don't know anything about cosplay. (http://www.autoadmit.com/thread.php?thread_id=848883&forum_id=2#10099850) |

|
Date: August 27th, 2008 7:59 AM Author: indigo becky principal's office Nice.
I think Halloween was invented to give men a nice start to November. The few men who failed it would spend the dawn hours of Nov. 1 carrying around paraffin lights and playing "peeping Tom", leading to the turn of phrase "jack-off lantern", an ancestor of the modern "jack-o-lantern". |
|
Date: August 26th, 2008 10:34 PM Author: indigo becky principal's office Terra is just an example. Women should aspire to be more like her or Celes than Sex and the City bitches. This is why American guys prefer foreign women; there is something heroic about them that is very rare in American girls.
I met a girl who reminded me of Terra, in Hungary. She didn't have green curly hair (dirty-blond, straight) but she did have the pony tail. She was awesome. |
