People who claim DPW has nicer, more friendly partners or lower hours.. full of it? or telling reality? or just honestly believe this?

Some firms may have nicer partners than others, though there will be assholes at every firm.

Beware of large, highly ranked law firms telling you their hours are lower than their competitor's.

firms will have nicer partners than others because it is just a matter of numbers (like some firms will have more blond haired attorneys than others) or because nicer partners are attracted to DPW ?

Neither. You're assuming they ARE nicer. The partners ACT nicer for marketing purposes -- they make more money is they perpetuate a myth that they're friendlier than CSM and are able to get the best people.

This was just discussed. DPW and Cravath partners are in the business of making you work as much as you can -- that is how leverage works. They simply do a better job at pretending to give a fuck about you. If that makes you happier, go there.

Roughly, yes. Among knowledgeable people, the argument isn't about hours, but atmosphere. You're going to work very close to constantly at any elite firm in NYC.

So how is the atmosphere any different between DPW and Cravath? After all, both provide free starbucks.

That's very much open to debate. An argument can be made that DPW puts more stock in being civil/respectful while they pile on work -- the data on that are inconsistent. The Cravath assignment system also means that you're stuck with one partner, good or evil, so there's no way to influence who you work for.

On the other hand, only one evil partner can give you work, versus a system where any partner can f you over. also, on a case it will never just be you and one partner. probably two partners and 2-3 associates right?

Rarely just you and one partner, although based on a couple of friends' experiences, that can happen at Cravath and they view it as a big plus. One way or the other, it's out of your hands.

From what I understand, its not that you are assigned to a single partner during a given rotation, but a "Team" of 2-4 partners that assign work.
