Subject: Rank these dist. ct. clerkships by competitiveness:

D. Maine

D. Vt.

D. NH

D. Ct.

ND NY

D NJ

D Rhode Island

D Maryland

ED Va.

ND Georgia

How important are geographic ties to the specific state / area for these courts? I've heard ties matter for fly-over district courts. Do these count as fly-over?

Thx.

Top 10. 3.4 GPA first year, 3.8 last semester (no idea what % that translates too, maybe top 1/3?). Secondary Journal (not exec board). Probably average recs. That's about it. Which of these Dist. Cts. are out of my league? Thx.

You need help from a prof to have a good shot at anything on the east coast. It's not out of the question, but there are hundreds of candidates with similar stats.

Also try targeting your apps to judges who attended your LS and UG, or with whom you share some other connection.

If you really want to clerk, consider applying for state appellate and MJ clerkships as well.

titcr. Not stellar stats, but with a little help (solid LORs; connecting in your cover letter with "I grew up in X," "My parents still live in Y," "I also graduated from Z"), you could get something solid. Tougher out East to be sure.

I don't know about the other courts listed here, but the DC metro courts are pretty competitive. In order of competitiveness I would say it's: DDC >> ED Va > D Md

EDVA is probably no. 1 and the others are probably pretty much tied for second.

things get tricky for flyover states.

you think they are less competitive? but they prefer people with local ties!

ED-Va is the hardest on that list. Md. is prob number 2. CT is also a bit more competitive than the others because of the spillover from NYC and Yale.
