Like I said a dozen or so small planes crash every year in the US primarily due to bad weather that was 100% foreseeable. Good captains scrap the flight rather than risk it all. The risk isn't worth it but pilots are always tempting fate.
And then there was the captain of El Faro who had every opportunity to seek safety harbor in the Bahamas but this dude was like, you know what, I'm sailing into a Cat5 hurricane in a leaky rustbucket... Captains are very powerful. They can kill everyone they're responsible for with a little mental retardation.
Nothing sells a disaster story quite like a Hot Chick copilot. |
