sometimes you have a really great company with a really interesting product spread and some unique, quality employees and then some assholes forcibly buy it out and destroy not just the company but the entire market sector in only 4 years

a good analogy might be the EA buyout of westwood
they bought a company responsible for one of the strongest RTS products in the field, and destroyed it practically overnight while also doing weird, weird shit like aggressively declaring everything (down to technically privately owned via company policy concept art spreads for unfinished, cancelled, or proposed titles) in Westwood's storied office to be EA ip which they did nothing with in the years to follow, annihilated the employee-enjoyed corporate culture, and even went so far as to take all of their industry awards and merch and unceremoniously toss it all in a dumpster while disallowing the employees to rescue any of it. there's a story from one of the ex employees talking about how he had to go back at night and dodge a rent-a-cop to dumpster dive to save a handful of the plaques and what not
it's suspected that they did it to poach a few good employees to work on their nascent RTS titles but because it's EA and all they do is produce industry slop nothing ever came of it
