Had that been a .223 it would have likely tumbled and may have lost enough velocity to be survivable. Even 7.62 NATO rounds do not accommodate as big a powder charge as .30-06. The thing about .30-06 is it tends to maintain its linear momentum and just create enormous cavitation as it passes through flesh. When it ricoched off the armor it probably didn't tumble but maintained dat linear momentum.
PS doods in Vietnam used to complain that 5.56 rounds tumbled when they touched blades of grass. Another reason the M-16 was junk |

I've harvested several moose with 30-06 A frames that have gone through ribs, both lungs, the other side's ribcage and blasted out the other side from 250ish yards. There's literally no way frangible ammo isn't going completely through a human neck. Chest, sure. Neck, no.
We're being fed false data. Either it wasn't a 30-06, or shooter was much further than 200 yards. |
