Pneumonia is a symptom. It is caused by a wide variety of organisms, bacterial, viral, and fungal, that can infect the lungs. There is a pneumonia vaccine that is effective against 21 of the most common variety of bugs. If the infectious organism is susceptible to an antibiotic, that is a useful treatment. My wife's sister recently developed methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus pneumonia which did not respond completely to any antibiotic. She had to have part of her lung removed to get rid of all of the infection. That resulted in a month in the hospital and a few weeks in rehab.

My wife's grandad is in ICU with pneumonia and the doctors said he's going to die soon

It's weird because he is completely responsive, mentally sharp, eating food etc

I've never seen a person on the verge of death behave this way
