It would make a TON of sense for California to become part of Mexico though. Only weirdos who live hell and gone from California disagree.

Then cons should STFU about it. If there were a problem Josh Shapiro would say something.

I'm glad California is a part of the United States. Many good things have come from California, not least the greatest film industry in the world and artificial intelligence. And California has managed to keep the pioneer spirit alive while it's all but dead in other states. California has all this public land where you can just go hiking or surfing whenever you want. In a state like Texas, almost all the land is privately owned, and what little public land that exists probably wouldn't be open to recreation without California being a shining example of the great outdoors. California has its problems, but it's always experimenting, always on the vanguard, and for better or for worse the problems that plague California always end up bedeviling the rest of the country in about ten years. In compensation we also get all the cool new innovations that Californians come up with first, on that same ten year timeline. California is America, but moreso, and without the Golden State America would still be America, but less so.

We get the bad ideas from California, but also the good ones. The US would be less vibrant culturally and economically without California. And maybe seeing California try all the new ideas first lets us mitigate the fallout from the bad ones somewhat, while leaning into the good ones.

Mexicans aren't bedeviled at all. Furthermore they aren't holding California back. It's still rich as fuck, even though it's full of Mexicans. What was your point again?

I'm the one who's confused about what point you're making. I don't think California should belong to Mexico because it's been an asset to the United States of America.

And look how the USA treats California in return. Mexico would act civilized and provide competent national leadership.

I'm not sure. I think whoever's president would do a bunch of land redistribution and wreck the golden goose. Granted, Proposition 13 is such a menace that if they got rid of that law the benefits might outweigh the incompetence of all the other likely "reforms" from a Mexican administration.

Why wouldn't they just let Californians keep running it? Does Mexico have a hyperactive government that micromanages far flung regions from 1000 miles away, or is that something only Trump does?

Land reform has been a key part of the Mexican federal government's social contract with the Mexican people since the Revolution. I'm not following Mexican politics closely, but the current ruling party strikes me as one that would want to do some sort of nationalization or reclamation in Alta California if that state were suddenly annexed by Mexico.

I'm not hearing the bad part. It sounds like Mexico would invest in California more heavily than the US government ever will.
