Six was fine

Seven is basically an entirely different (worse) game though

5 had some major changes (hex grid, no stacking on tiles) but 6 didn't really change much of the core formula imo. People who pretend the two games are radically different are just kneejerk civfags who always shit on (most recent game). I liked the religion and city state mechanics in 6

7 is legitimately terrible and a very different game than all its predecessors. The "three eras with a hard reset between each" mechanic is fucking retarded and not fun at all, the tech tree has been radically oversimplified, etc.

I heard that the city management in six was tedious and that's by far my least favorite part about five

Civ 5 was the goat of the series imo there are a lot of mods out for it that make it a much better more completed and complex game

it is kind of tedious but not debilitatingly so. but if you are obsessive it can get annoying because you can really get cute about optimizing district placement for bonus yields. same with selecting policy cards every five turns or so, starts to feel like work to figure out the optimal choices. otherwise it's pretty good.

i've played more 6 so i feel more at home in it and i can't be entirely unbiased, but i will also say that civ v is now 15 years old. as much as the older versions might legitimately be better you can sense their age. i tried playing 3 again for shits the other day and as much as i liked it as a kid i just couldn't get into it at all.

the only thing i really hate about 6 is you can't dump excess production to gold and forget about it.

so if you have some end of development city you are forced to revisit it every three turns to make some useless production choice.

you can select city projects for whatever districts you have in a given city to generate the resource related to that district (gold for commercial/harbor, production for industrial zone, etc.)
