They’ve all moved on now with their own lives, pursuits, husbands, families, children, interests, passions. They don’t think about you, even as a passing thought on a lonely night, no matter how deeply there was love between you at some point far in the past. It’s not how they’re wired. And you’ll never get it back. You’ll never go back there. It’s lost. However you felt, however special it was, that time, that opportunity, is lost forever as you unceasingly age toward your death. There is no more special moment with her, any of the hers, it’s all gone and you’re trapped forever in your present as it grows increasingly distant from those memories. So go on, sack up, head into work today, or whatever it is you do to drown out the dread of your finite existence, because none of that love is ever coming back.
