It is probably beneficial for young kids to have a sense of belonging to a larger, national community and being an "American". I think the same thing about American history. It has changed now to kids being taught about how awful we have been as a country: the founders had slaves; we killed the Indians; misogyny! racism! Better that kids learn the basics of America and not focus on the negative. You can study that shit all you want in college and advanced classes in HS.
