A sexually transmitted fungal bug called Trichophyton mentagrophytes genotype VII (TMVII) is spreading fast.
It's the only known fungal STI out there, and it causes ugly, itchy ringworm rashes in private areas like the genitals, buttocks, and thighs, real misery for anyone who gets it.
Right now, Minnesota has the biggest known outbreak in the United States.
State health officials just warned about it in February 2026: 13 confirmed cases plus 27 suspected ones since July 2025, all mostly in the Twin Cities area. Most victims are gay men but a couple of cases have been confirmed in dogs.
That's over 40 potential victims in one metro zone.
This thing first popped up in the U.S. in New York City back in 2024.
It's been growing in Europe for years among gay men.
The liberal push for unrestricted sexual behavior and pride in risky lifestyles has helped stuff like this spread quicker than it should.
