Not flame this happens more often than people realize. They aren’t telling you to keep your seatbelt on for fun. Aircraft can experience sudden, rapid variations in altitude which the aircraft can easily survive but the meatbags inside will not if they’re bouncing around the interior.

Ryanair was lobbying the Irish government to ferry standing room only passengers from Dublin to Stansted.

i think about this every time i fly. people wandering around, smiling on their way to the bathroom, taking off their seatbelt and laying back to watch some shitty movie. one of these days they're all going to get slammed into the ceiling and floor a few times. we're way too comfortable with flying, it's a completely insane endeavor that only appears "safe" because of what we've learned over hundreds, maybe thousands of sudden and terrible accidents.

I think you can do a lot of flying before something like that happens. I've been flying since I was a newborn, and I've never experienced anything worse than turbulence. If I were an elf destined to live forever, yes, I'd be worried about eventually getting in a plane crash.

i didn't see the impact directly iirc but i heard a noise and other people with and around me commented on it. not sure if the attendant went all the way up but afaik she got some air and hit the floor hard enough to break something

i was ~2-4 at the time. an older relative mentions the event sometimes when discussing their aversion to travel. also one of the first times i recall seeing snow

insane to get inside of a plane. even the best minds cannot explain how they "work" with a 450 ton airbus staying in the air for as long as it does.

lots of speculation about lift and drag and the "weight" of air but wouldnt want to be in one when those theories fall apart.

It's incredibly simple lift and drag and the Bernoulli principle but also btw if a couple 6 inch flaps on the wings malfunction by an inch, everything explodes
