Nolan worked with Elliot Page in the past. He felt bad for zher and gave zher a small role in the Film. It isn't that big of a deal. Yeah, even thinking about what would appeal to my sensibilities, what would just be interesting and compelling, Odysseus should be both preternaturally clever in a charming way and brutally cunning in an alien, more bronze age or nietzschean way. They could have conveyed a bit of this by including his slaughter of the faithless maids at the beginning.
