Tbf, the first movie is flawless and so it's the definition of a hard act to follow
SPOILERS
But Soldado inserts a comical "oops almost hit a kid with my car" plot point, just to have the same kid recognize Benecio Del Toro in a different country days later and blow his cover. Bad luck, Benecio!
The kid executes Benecio with a headshot, dropping his corpose into the Mexico dust where he bleeds out for 6 hours. ... Only BAM to come back alive - the bullet only went through his cheeks! Good luck, Benecio! Shot through the head/cheeks, Benecio can still wander miles through the hot desert, take a car, and not only drive it to the border, but battle with grenades while doing so.
Then, flash forward, he finds the kid and says, "You wanna be a Sicario?", suggesting he will train the kid. BAM, credits roll.
Imagine Villenueve in the first movie closing on the line, "Wow, youre a real Sicario", or something like that. Lmao.
Great cinematic universe, fun movie, but dumb as hell

yeah watch the second if you love the first. it will make you like it more.
second is fun, but its hollywood, and what the first one would have been without villenueve
civil war, lol. entertaining lib masturbation fantasy. I dont even mind that california went into the conservative alliance, or whatever, suspension of disbelief. But in the middle of a 2020s civil war, people are like "STILL PHOTO JOURNALISTS ARE SO IMPORTANT!"
Even combatants are risking their lives, "SAVE THAT CAMERA-MAN, WE NEED JOURNALISM!" while the guy clicks his Nikon

indisputed potus of sicario scenes is the border traffic scene in the first one. I made a thread about it a few weeks ago
its remarkable mostly because they avoid the hollywood trope of "it all goes wrong!", which the second movie is full of
all the tension and violence of that scene... and it all goes fine. its all no big deal, and they shrug and pull it off

she's just the audience stand-in and I think she works well in that role
the absence of a normal / moral person in the second is felt. they try to make the little girl some moral center, but dont have time or space to allow her to be, and she's fucking 15 and shouldnt be nearly as smart or moral as she is

Tyler Sheridan (Yellowstone) wrote all this stuff. He's bewildering bc he will get some things so right.
But thinking more on the big plot point in Soldado... Some CIA guys nearly hit a mexican teen in a Target parking lot. These guys are highly trained deep undercover, DOD's best black site torturers, wet work men, etc.
But they nearly hit this kid and while the camera underscores the kid staring deeply into Benecio's eyes, memorizing his face apparently for no explained reason, the CIA doods flip on a siren at the kid, to say... "hey fucker we are police-affiliated", I guess? Wtf. CIA lifers just blowing cover in a parking lot, over a 5mph pedestrian close call
And then, in the middle of the night in a migrant gathering point, the kid sees Benecio in a cowboy hat and poncho, in the dark, through a window, about 50 yards out surrounded by other mexican migrants, and is like "THATS THE GUY FROM TARGET WHO IS POLICE", ids him to the cartel, who then stage a massive murder ambush on this kid's target parking lot id
thats the big plot hinge in the movie and every part of it is the dumbest shit you ever heard

im open to argument. How would you address my three main charges:
1. Accidental and random encounter permits future identification of undercover main character
2. Headshot execution of main character drops him, apparently dead and pouring blood in the desert. Psyche, he is still alive and near full strength
3. "Wanna be a SICARIO?" -- curtain drops
Any of these three are unacceptable, but esp the third

I started watching NCIS from the beginning last summer, watch about two episodes a week. I also didn’t start watching breaking bad until it had been out about 5 years
Both of them ruined me for most movies although I am planning to see accountant 2 this weekend.
I started gladiator 2 on a plane trip recently and made it 15 minutes before I got too irritated
I also liked conclave up until the shitlib ending.

1) secure the border
2) deport the cartel/gang psychos who would cause problems when it starts
3) use drones and SF to target the leadership
