i used to take 4 mg of clonazepam per day and it was Cr. stopped the near-daily panic attacks and greatly reduced anxiety levels. but i developed a tolerance, so some of the anxiety came back, but the panic attacks never did. i'm down to 3 mg per day now. doctor said it was fine to just drop by 1 mg but i tapered over a week without any major issues. plan is to go down to 2 mg at the next appointment. biggest stressors in life have been addressed, so the need for benzos is going away. overall would definitely recommend benzos for the short-term, and long-term only if you actually need them (i.e., SSRIs, therapy, etc. fail) and aren't an addict.

find a psychiatrist whose specialty/focus is more serious stuff like schizophrenia. a PCP or even a psychiatrist who handles boring, mild cases will run out of ideas and tell you to go to a hospital if the garbage SSRIs and low-dose Xanax don't work. a hardcore psychiatrist has seen enough shit to calmly prescribe a large dose when warranted, and knows when and how to get you off of it.
