He was already a star before the plastic surgery too so it probably wouldn’t matter in the end. The curiosity factor helped build his myth later I think.

really very very little, maybe a little on the nose and shit but nothing major compared to later, and this was the Thriller era when he was an Elvis Presley level star

all of the really weird stuff where he totally changed his face and skin color, and the weird marriages and all that shit, came years after this, and I tend to think all that weirdo behavior destroyed his megastardom rather than enhancing it
