Shadows of the Collossus was kind of like this too but instead you had to figure out how to defeat huge beasts. It had the breath of the wild climbing dynamic down really well.
PS2 was an awesome Gen (shared with Gamecube) |

Like doing certain ones over and over like 400 times until getting gold.
