Obviously, you shouldn't be embarrassed by your struggles (everyone has some issue), but hypo: everyone in society knows you struggle with ADHD, or everyone knows you struggle with depression. Which is worse?

depression is because you make everyone feel it too, so if you know whats good for you you hide it chemically or thru willpower

Outside of work ADHD is mostly neutral and can make you more interesting in certain contexts, unless you’re also one of those autistic spazzes that can’t have a normal conversation, interrupts people constantly and has no internal monologue, so you spew your random mental illness tangents at people constantly. But by the time they’re in high school many/most ADHD learn to zone out while you talk and then change the subject to something they find interesting. Depressed people who can’t mask are awful to be around, and for most of my life society has maintained a steady trend of making more and more excuses for these self-obsessed Debbie Downers when they suck the life out of every room they’re in. But at work if you say you’re depressed you can get paid leave and shit, but if you say you have ADHD they tell you to get some adderall and stop being a faggot and then they look for excuses to fire you.

Forgetting is ADHD. Thinking of texting them and the getting overwhelmed and then blowing it off is depression. Co-morbidity of both is super common, eg remembering you forgot to text someone, think of texting them but get super overwhelmed by them being mad you forgot and what they might reply, shame spiraling, getting distracted by an avoidant behavior enabler, say for instance a very simplistic Web 1.0 message bort popularity with racist gay lawyers, and then you go do that to distract yourself from your brain.

I feel like it is super rare for someone to come out at work as having either depression of ADHD but either way with depression, colleague work folks seize up because they afraid said worker might kill self which will be bad PR. Like that Sidley lawyer who blew his head off in the parking lot of the LA office.

Coming out randomly is one thing, but being blatantly obvious about it for a while, and then raising it as a defense when they start the process of documenting your shitty performance and setting up their PIP & RIF is much more common.

If an adult complains about having ADHD, he sounds like an immature baby. If he says he's depressed, people empathize and will encourage him to seek help.
