My main concern with AI is it's making boring people even more banal

My boomer father sent me a lengthy incoherent screed about how he's cultivated a deep personal relationship with AI. He said he spends 5 hours a day now chatting with it and it has made him a prompt God. He says you need to talk to it every day to understand the deep interpersonal dynamic with the chat bots. I asked him what he achieved with this and he said it helped him write a report for work. He said the paper itself was stupid but the magic was in creating it together with his partner, a machine.
He said people are fools if they don't understand that the whole future will be run by AI power users who use LLMs every day as their personal assistant in life. I think AIs make people joyless, banal, and unoriginal. I would like to be as far away from AI as possible. I think Mainlining was a better poaster before he turned to AI. It made him much worse. |

Shortly afterward, another job offer came in from a company I’m more excited about, with better pay and benefits that align more closely with my career goals.
When I got the second offer verbally, I told them I needed two days to decide because I had another offer I was considering. I didn’t mention at the time that I had already started working at the first job.
The second offer is contingent on a background check, which could take a few weeks, so I plan to keep working at my current job until that clears. Once it does, I intend to resign professionally and start the new role.
My questions:
Does it reflect poorly on me that I asked for time to consider an offer while already working somewhere else?
Am I at risk of burning bridges by leaving a job after just one week?
How should I handle explaining the timeline honestly if asked?
Is this kind of situation common, and how do employers usually view it?
