I guess they would view it as sort of a Jewish version of a Crusader state. It’s not like they’d be unfamiliar with the idea of a bunch of Europeans trying to carve out a kingdom in the Ottoman Empire. Most likely they would not get involved, good advice then as now.

cq. i think it's tough to predict what they would've done because weaponry has advanced such that the calculus of what is a defensive war has sort of changed. usa started as isolationist. otoh the concept of a thucydides trap is ancient, as far as kneecapping a country on the rise before it can fully arrive - i know iran isn't advancing in that classical sense, but it would definitely change the balance of power if they got nukes
