I want to try sleeping 4 hours at night, then taking 4 or 5 30 minute naps throughout the day.

I tried the "uberman" version this (basically only nap) when I was like 17 because it sounded cool as fuck to never sleep. Turns out it's complete nonsense gibberish fraud. Crazy

In any case any sleep schedule involving periodic napping is likely going to get harder to maintain as you age and napping is less reliable. 10 years ago I could fall asleep on a bed of rocks in the middle of the day, now I can't really nap at all unless I'm completely exhausted.

Yeah, it's impossible unless you're genetically inclined to it. No amount of discipline and determination can get you there if you aren't. I tried really really hard and it was hopeless - couldn't do it

You just don't get enough sleep and you are always tired. The advantage of polyphasic sleep is supposed to be that the tiredness forces your body to immediately fall into deep sleep when you take your sleep breaks, so you get to spend less overall time sleeping and have more awake hours of the day. But what ends up happening is you are just tired all the time because you don't get enough sleep

I do think that some people are genetically different and their bodies are able to do it somehow, but it's not something that you can willfully change about yourself if you don't have that natural gift

A bunch of people tried this in law school - it’s impossible and all but one guy quit in week 2. The one guy lasted a month but was constantly having to plan around his sleep.
