my favorite is the "flex" posts. people poasting shit like "i just bought a $600 parrot - WITH A CAGE and took it to the vet - couldn't afford to do this if i had other humans to take care of!" "CHILDFREE FLEX - going out of state to see GHOST perform live in april. couldn't afford this if..." basically they're advertising that they are poor/LMC. |

And before anyone asks; -fresh, filtered water daily with those fancy water fountains because cats are like toddlers and easily entertained
-wet food daily
-automatic food dispenser that goes off 4 times a day (2 full meals and 2 snacks)
-Fresh scooped litter (we have 8 litter boxes for 4 cats) and all are deep cleaned weekly
-Toys. SO many toys. And tons of play. |

My husband and I took the train from MD to NYC to watch the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child show on Broadway for the day. We splurged on the Lyric Lounge, so we got complimentary drinks, chocolate wands, private bathrooms (this alone was worth it not to stand in line to share 12 stalls with 300 people during a 15 min intermission), charcuterie board and just a lovely place to sit and chill before the show and during intermission. We also got to pre-order our drinks for intermission (which were waiting for us) and we were able to have snacks available within the lounge. We ate spicy Vodka pizza from Upside and cannolis from Angelina. Walked a closed 8th St full of vendors and ate more street food. Overall, it was a great little day trip.
Lawd. All this free time and expendable money, what a sad and unfulfilled life we live. π |

No Lexus dealership in my state so flew down to Denver and drove her home. The best thing is she is paid in full. To my younger sinks and dinks, especially those who may be financially frustrated, my life was not handed to me. Both my husband and I paid our way through college. We bought a half finished house and put in the work. We did all the sheet rock, painting, landscaping, etc. We sacrificed a lot, there were few dinners out, vacations, etc. But we worked our way up and now we have a house on acreage, paid off cars, a few vacations a year, and plan to retire by 55 (hopefully π€). Just know that hard work and smart decisions can pay off. None of this would have been possible if we had had kids.

My wife and I took a seven hour drive from our home in the States as an early 10 year wedding anniversary/27 total years together anniversary gift to each other. The first night we ate at an Italian chain but, the next day we went to Niagara Falls, went on a clothing shopping spree at Reitman’s (love that store!), ate at the 360° Restaurant at CN Tower and capped the trip off with a concert by my favorite band, The Dears! We had such a good time, we’re going back in February to see Kumail Nanjiani’s stand-up!
If we had crotch goblins we πππππ would be able to do these things. As it stood, it was hard enough finding a good kennel for our St. Bernard Ollie! I can’t imagine if there were little demon seeds running around too! π

It was cold so I had them under a blanket with the cover closed so they could nap (this photo is from a different and warmer day π) As we were leaving the couple next to us went “your baby is so quiet!” I couldn’t help but laugh when i said “that’s because there’s no baby in there but 3 dogs”
Travel and such isn’t always easy with dogs but definitely easier than a baby π

I was watching the mother and father both trying to control him and failing miserably, with the father trying to pick him up off the floor and the mother doing that ridiculous "I'm gonna count to three" nonsense that we know NEVER works with kids. THEN the sister, about three years old sitting in the shopping cart, decides to join in and SHE starts screaming and crying about God knows what. It's a complete debacle right in front of the frozen pizza section. I grab my ice cream, put my airpods in because I'm rather stick a fork in my eye than continue listening to that, and I go on my merry way to self-checkout. I am done paying and leaving the store and the kids are STILL crying and the parents are STILL doing their ridiculous countdown. I roll my eyes, giggle, and say to myself "I fucking love my life." |

My father passed away Monday night. Because I have financial flexibility as a DINK, I flew my mom (and myself) out to the hospital in Texas to be with my dad. Although they’ve been divorced for 20 years, my dad never stopped loving her. My mom loves him too, but couldn’t live with him. My dad is a difficult person. Last year they lost their daughter, my older sister to liver failure, and my mom was in the air when she died, despite my best effort to get her there on time. Mom said she didn’t want to miss another important death and when it came time, I put her on another plane. Despite the time lapse and the differences in their past, she arrived and climbed into bed with him and held him until he stopped breathing. He acknowledged her when she arrived, passed just an hour and a half after. He was waiting for her. It was the sweetest, saddest, and yet, most amazing thing I ever witnessed. I’m so glad I could make this happen for my mom and my dad, and it was cathartic for all of us to usher him to death in the best way we could. I’m sure if I had kids, I wouldn’t have been able to make this happen.

Then we did a week at our families cabin in Wisconsin in July. In January this year we are doing a week long staycation at home to focus on some home updates and just centering ourselves for the year ahead. We are doing a themed dinner multiple nights of our staycation. I’m talking LOTR, Coraline, One Piece, Etc! In November of 2025 my parents are taking us, my brother, SIL, and nephew to Disney for 7 nights. They’re covering our airfare, the resort stay, and our 7 day park hopper passes. Which means we just get to use our funds to buy whatever we want and live it up.
My Christmas this year we had put 4K aside for Christmas presents. We spent $300+ on each of our parents. I bought some super awesome custom made exploration toys from Etsy for my nephew. We spent $500 on gifts for our dogs and cat. And the rest of that money went toward buying myself a new uplift desk (Gave my slightly smaller uplift to the hubby), and I bought my husband a new sound board, expensive headset, new video games, and a ton of awesome stuff from Etsy for his stocking. His stocking stuffers came out to $200 alone.
This month was just a total crap shoot for us financially. We had to spend $500 on our HVAC, $600 on new tires for my suv, $1200 on surgery for one dog, and $600 for diagnostics on another. And we didn’t have to touch our emergency fund because we had enough in all of our other savings funds just for situations like this. I have an account for pet expenses and home/vehicle expenses which covered everything. Additionally all my pets are insured so we will get 90% of the vet expenses back.
We both had a really rough life until we got back together and moved south (for property in a LCOL state). My husband went from making 25k per year in a HCOL state to 100-120k in a LCOL state. I went from about 40k to 55k. I know to a lot of people these are not crazy high incomes. But for us it allows us to live extremely comfortably in the state we laid down roots.
And dont get me started on our hobbies! I am obsessed with fiber arts. I just started crocheting 6 months ago, and am going to start knitting after Christmas! We are both huge PC gamers. We get to do what we want when we want on weekends. A few photos of what being DINKS allows us to afford! |

I’m currently on day 13 of a 17 day trip to Argentina. I flew business class here (on American though. Trash business product. Not impressed. Not worth the price tag. But it’s the only OW airline that flies here from Seattle)
Yesterday, while chatting with my uber driver I mentioned I was traveling alone (yes ladies I know. Don’t worry. I sussed out the situation. It wasn’t an issue to mention that). He asked how old I was. 43. Damn. You look good! Yes. I know. I don’t have a husband or kids. Of course I look great. Then we went out for drinks and I took him back to my Airbnb. Single and fabulous. π₯³π₯³π₯³ππΌππΌππΌ

If we had kids, we simply wouldn’t have the means to live in NYC, nor would we have the time or means to spend our Saturday doing fun things.
