Iraq maintained high tariffs on foreign goods to protect domestic industries.
Imports were tightly regulated, especially under:
The state-run monopoly system
The UN sanctions regime (1990–2003), which further isolated Iraq economically
The regime promoted import substitution and discouraged reliance on global trade. |
