hipsters are pretty much all from the middle class. it doesn't really work when wealthy people try to do it unless they have a PR firm forcing it (Chloe Sevigny)

being a hipster requires having a certain pool of shared nostalgic touchstones to work off of and draw cultural artifacts from i think

where? like old school plastic swivel chairs and wood lane floors bowling? pitchers of yuengling and cigarette machines by the bathrooms? or edm dance lights "bowlero" type bowling?

i saw the former up in the NW a couple of times but not anywhere else. i've heard there are a couple of places in brooklyn and manhattan that offer a simulacrum of the former as well.

bowling in the 80s and 90s was a mixture of blue collar league players and middle to upper middle families looking for recreation afaik

Around me nearly all of the old bowling places closed. We have the new ones on the first floor of modern box buildings with the lights and loud music and $18 cocktails and $22 flatbreads and you need to make a reservation and it suddenly costs 5x what it used to.

Bowling is fun across generations and with friends or a date.

i think it's supposed to be a "zen" sport so the addition of tacky lights and visual distractions from the actual game are sps

i put it in the same category as badminton or racquetball for that. racquetball has a very strong zen property when you get a good rally going.
