the REAL reason Americans eat sweet corn as a staple is really fucking sad

Date: January 5th, 2026 3:21 PM Author: vigorous potus Indians never grew sweet corn as a staple. They considered it an oddity that was only used on ceremonial occasions to make sweets. They ate hundreds of varieties of maize and only a few were sweet corn.
The problem is that by the time Europeans arrived here, they were already hooked on sugar from Asia. They kept asking these American Indians "what's good to eat around here" and Indians kept giving them all this maize, but it never worked. The Europeans never said "oh thank you, this is great" until some tribe noticed their sugar addiction and offered them some sweet corn. It was at that point that Europeans finally came to love maize, and now it's ILLEGAL to use other varieties of maize for anything but animal feed and home decor |

That's why 100% of our tortillas taste like dogshit. We had to invent flour tortillas to compensate for the shittiness of our corn tortillas, which crumble and fall apart as soon as they touch moisture. |
