As to whether the old centerfolds are legal, case law is a bit ambiguous, a lot of thr Playboy centerfolds were done by professional photographers with strong artistic reputations and while the ones from the 80s show full frontal nudity you could argue they dont involve "lascivious exhibition of the genitals" which is the standard. The ones from the 60s and early 70s usually dont show the pubic region at all, like the chick is usually posed so you cant see that and those are definitely legal.
So far I havent heard of a prosecutor charging someone with CP for distributing or possessing pics from playboy so who knows how they would rule. |

No boomer jury would convict unless it was 100% female. But boomers have started dying off, these older Playboy shoots circulate less than they used to, and norms have changed to consider attraction to any teens to be taboo.
I wouldnt be surprised to see some millenial/Gen Z prosecutor go after someone for this in the next 10 or 20 years.
I still think their would be a decent defense case that (1) the photos are artistic expression with first amendment protections (2) it is not clear it is necessarily lascivious exhibition.
But remember that even being charged with CP is enough to destroy somebody's life. Even if you clear your name.
They will put out a press release with your mug shot charging you wit possessing and receiving vague "ch**d s**ual ab*se material." They will knock down your door and ransack your home. They will cart away and pick apart every book, paper and electronic device you own. They will get a warrant for all your electronic accounts and trawl your entire internet history. When you are acquitted, there will be no press release...if you are lucky you live in a state where the law requires county sheriffs to take down the original press release if you are acquitted. At best.
And even if there is a 1% chance of conviction, your life is definitively over at that point bc federal law treats it the same way as like toddler r*pe videos.
