I have a sneaking suspicion that kalief would've floundered regardless due to phenotype, race etc and the whole rikers insanity was just cops/society (the invisible hand of 'the system') innately feeling&acting out the unspoken understanding that this kid would be given 'no breaks' or successful clique future due to phenotype

This is how things work in this country, people just have to carry a load based on their genotype/phenotype/Caste. People seeing it as a "white" or a "black" thing are aware of at least part of the story. Anyone on the lower rungs of any given system in this "society" has to carry an immense weight for which they receive no credit. 120 years ago, the progenitors to today's Scumbags were literally working themselves to death at age 40, labouring alongside their children in factories to squeeze our enough profit so that their owners could stay current with their (((bank loans))). Even today, many "jobs" that pay under a certain level are a total disaster. People clearing raccoons from crawlspaces, or Scumbags living on SSDI are both carrying a load - the former by doing a ridiculous job that pays nothing and fires him for no reason in 11 months, the latter by being ignominious. Even the latter plays a key role in society by bearing the psychic load of ignominy. His contributions are not apparent in tax revenues or in a job well done, or in great works of art, but by enabling society to flourish through sheer stratification and compartmentalisation of Bad Realities away from the psychic paths of Winners. They both do what they do so that Winners can Win, so that Hot Girls can ride on yachts and pose for instagram and so that they, together with Jocks, can remain blissfully ignorant to world events or the ups and downs of the economic cycle.

They will also pay tribute to the very System that subjugates them. For instance, the more professional sports contests that they watch, the more that they raise the social position of Jocks relative to their own. A 16 year old being Recruited by a D2 school has a higher social position than 99% of adults and will most assuredly go on to ace all manner of Job Interviews even if he never has a shot at the pros. Scumbags happily go along with the charade because to care about the systemic injustice involved = liberal arts.

Losers - those self-aware wretches of the lower Castes - are the ones who will reflect on these realities, and for this they are punished savagely by a society that hates them. And yet, wherever there is a Job Interview that needs a qualified white man to bomb it so that a Hot Girl/URM can be hired - a Loser will be there. Wherever there is any kind of Yield Protection stat that needs a boost - a Loser will be there to Lose. Wherever there is an OCI that begs to be bombed, an ignominious Office job that needs doing, a Gamecube game collection that needs buying, a Woman who needs her ego propped up in spite of her unworthiness - a Loser will be there. Losers are bearing a psychic load for the collective, stratified ignominy of society, perhaps even more than Scumbags because of their self-awareness. Even if he makes $27k and pays like no taxes, and is shamed for his ignominy by his betters, still the Loser contributes immensely to the system that despises him. If Scumbags are the pillars bearing the load of propping up polite society from behind the scenes, Losers are those delicate Buttresses that finesse said load away from the higher castes. All so that Winners can stay perched above, supported by the efforts of the lower castes for which they have the privilege to largely remain oblivious, not unlike the structure of Midgar in FF7; a Plate with the rich/UMC/people who ace OCI blocking out the Sun for those Losers and Scumbags below. And, perhaps like today, that economic structure doesn't even depend on those in the Slums of that city to function, but rather, it excludes them outright.

Anyway, whoever you are - URM, Woman, Loser, Scumbag, whatever - you live your life in the service of the Clique System. An evil which - those its necessity is questionable - serves a purpose of some kind, which is to Stratify Ignominy. Most people are attuned to their own realities and miss the larger picture. A broader view is necessary, one which encompasses the entire Clique System. Until that day, a Proud Liberal like myself can only laugh at, say, a shitlib activist who decries the treatment of, "Kalief," while probably contributing to the Hot Guy prisoner's gofundme on the DL, and YET is oblivious to the causal factors of her Loser brother bombing OCI or her mother initiating her divorce from her father unilaterally. Discuss.
