You do it so you don’t stand in someone else’s line and leave spike marks and in general it makes the putting order flow more naturally. Right of continuation is a thing that Rory would have normally done had he not wanted to gloat by having the final putt and also give Cam Young a quiet look at what would have been a very expensive putt for him to miss.
