CD Revenue: $171.1 million (+58.6%)

Roughly half of CD buyers do not own a CD player.

The problem with vinyl is that it's expensive, cumbersome, and ultimately it doesn't sound as good. It's difficult to produce and procure. I knew a boomer guy who did QC for vinyls for one of the major labels for decades. They had to bring this guy out of retirement because they demand shot up and he had a rare skill. But that all factors into cost and availability.

But I think the even bigger problem is with streaming. People are sick of being treated like a commodity. The other day just to test a theory I put a CD into my Xbox to play it. Disaster. I had to download Windows Media Player which took forever for their servers to decide to send me 5 mb. And then the sound quality was just awful through all this tech bullshit.

The other thing that sucks completely is Bluetooth. All these phones use to have 1/8" headphone outs. You could Aux into a car stereo. Then they said people don't want that feature. Took it away. Bluetooth is noticeably worse than wired.

I think people are sick of Playlists, commercials, fees. They just want to listen to the same shit they love over and over. Finding out your music sounds worse and you're paying a tech oligarch in time money and attention for a convenience you don't even want sucks. And vinyl sucks. And buying CDs supports bands way more. The only downside is carrying a physical disc around but in every other way it's better. Big Tech can never alter or restrict the tunes on the disc. It's simple and easy.
