At least in my rounds my friends and I aren't keeping score against each other, and as a result the rules aren't really enforced and no one gives a shit besides God Almighty as these fuckers make up bullshit scores all day long. I grew up playing team sports so I miss the competitive element and firmly believe that you can't get better at any sport unless you're playing with the right competition. I guess the next step is to enter tournaments and such.

of course. foursomes more often when we’re playing at my club, four ball usually elsewhere.

i stop teeing it up with people who don’t want to play a match. i’m not interested in playing “just for fun” because it’s actually much less fun imo. if im gonna keep score and have it not mean anything i’d rather play by myself

I'm with you. It's getting a little stale. Only so many times you can play against the course.

Do opposing teams keep score for your team? Or is it honor system?

it’s match play so you’re watching every shot to see where you stand on the hole there’s not really any “keeping score” everyone knows what everyone else is putting for when we’re on the green

sometimes. no more than a few hundred if it’s a straight up match. if we’re doing presses it can get higher.

but more often it’s just shit like first round of drinks on the losers

There's a good low stakes betting game you can play that's fairly handicap agnostic

First onto green, shortest to hole on green, first to sink putt from green (lowest putts)

Like $5 each per hole

But it's annoying unless you have an autistic friend to keep track of who owes/wins what the whole round

lol @ a OP and his brown friends kicking balls out of trees when nobody is looking, taking mulligans left and right, giving themselves gimmies on 6-foot putts, etc.

only white people should be allowed to play golf. OP is constantly poasting about him and his friends cheating at golf. even jews dont do this shit.

50-50, but only lame "competition" like skins or lone wolf. That way whoever is having a shitty day can still participate and even occasionally collect.

None of us are great golfers, 10-15 handicap range. Might be different if we were better, but someone is usually playing like ass and it's no fun to lose 8 and 7 or whatever.

Nah my golf buddies are all chill and supportive

One of them would be an amazing caddie. He tells me exactly what to do (where and how hard to hit) on the longest rolling elevated putts, and it goes in if I hit the target

Was great off the drive today. But the approach shots were all shit. I fucked up my ankle badly when my friend thought a walking bridge could fit our cart, but instead of slowly entering he gunned it. My foot was slightly outside the cart. And it all happened on the first hole so it was a shitty day. Shot a 95.

I think it is entirely fair to insist that if someone is going to claim a score they adhere to the rules of golf pretty closely, but in real golf you are just out there on your own playing the course 99% of the time, the field is not on the hole with you, that is the part about golf you're supposed to care the most about so making your partners play some game if they just want to shoot a full round is dickish

Absolutely. The coolest way to be a good friend is to take a chill, casual round of golf with your bros and be a total faggot about it by competing stroke for stroke and calling out minute penalties and rule deviations.

Friend I normally play with - not really competitive at all, we give each other putts liberally, he/his friends take favorable drops, don't gamble, really just both of us trying to beat the course as best we can

Friend back home - Foursomes always involve 2 on 2 gambling, and he'll often have a side game 1 v 1 with a member of the foursome. Very strict on gimmes. Strictly by the rules (no treating OB the same as red/yellow stakes or dropping on the other side of the hazard), with the exception of a lost ball we all agree to have been in play gets a free drop (e.g. ball plugged in the deep rough somewhere or there's tons of leaves on the ground and we can't find it). It's not really cuthroat or anything and no real shit talking, just more competitive.
