There are a lot of older artists like that who will be all but forgotten in a few years -- except by music nerds. You are right, he is awesome.

You're right. Identifying Roy Orbison as the writer of "Oh, Pretty Woman" was a triple stumper on Jeopardy the other day.

Take oldies stations. I used to like listening to oldies stations and really grew to be a fan of, for example, doo wop. But oldie stations now play 80s music -- not 50s. Most of that old fifties music will fall from public memory. Same with the sixties as well and so on.

I was thinking about this the other day, I grew up listening to Oldies in the car w my dad and the station in my hometown only recently switched to a "best of the 60s 70s and 80s" format

I have Sirius XM and one of my favorite stations is "40s Junction", which plays a lot of awesome music from the 40s.

Music really WAS much better back then. So much instrumental and vocal talent, much more emotive.

Tragic life:

Orbison and Claudette shared a love for motorcycles; she had grown up around them, but he claimed Elvis Presley had introduced him to motorcycles.[65] Tragedy struck on June 6, 1966, however, when Orbison and Claudette were riding home from Bristol, Tennessee. She struck the door of a pickup truck which had pulled out in front of her on South Water Avenue in Gallatin, Tennessee, and died instantly.[66]

During a tour of The Midlands in England, on September 16, 1968, he received the news that his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee, had burned down, and his two eldest sons had died.[71]

One of my favorite artists from that era - really really good. extremely dark lyrics, reflecting as stated earlier in the thread, due to his tragic life.
