Takaichi is a hard-line conservative and hard-line nationalist.[7][43][44][45][46] Takaichi is a member of the ultranationalist organisation, Nippon Kaigi.[47] Taro Kono, another LDP minister and member of the House of Representatives, has said that Takaichi is on the far right of the political spectrum within the LDP.[48] Takaichi has been described as far-right by Deutsche Welle and the South China Morning Post.[49][50] In 2021, Time magazine described her as an ultraconservative.[51] Former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida allegedly nicknamed her "Taliban Takaichi".[40]
Takaichi often cites Margaret Thatcher as a role model.[7][52] Like Thatcher, she is described with the nickname "Iron Lady".[52][53][54]
She has expressed social conservative views including opposition to same-sex marriage and support for requiring couples to share a surname after marriage.[7] She said that a government gender equality plan in December 2020 could "destroy the social structure based on family units".[56] Takaichi also opposes the law being changed to allow for a woman to be able to become the emperor of Japan.[7]
Takaichi supports punishing media outlets that criticise Japan's government and imprisoning those who damage Japan's national flag.[47] In 2014 she hosted office visits for far-right extremists.[47] Also in 2014, a photo surfaced of Takaichi pictured for an advertisement in a Tokyo magazine endorsing a 1994 book titled Hitler's Election Strategy.[57]

Japan’s newly elected PM met with neo-Nazis, endorsed a book on Adolf Hitler’s political strategies, advocated shutting down media outlets she disliked while serving as communications minister, and is such an extremist that members of her own party have nicknamed her "Taliban."

1994 NYT article on the book
Mr. Ogai said the book did not state an official party position, merely his personal advice to candidates in these "chaotic" times that they could learn some tactics from Hitler. He said, however, that he had cleared the book beforehand with the secretary general of the Tokyo branch.
The book drew immediate condemnation from the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, which has long criticized the rather frequent publication in Japan of books warning about a "Jewish conspiracy."
"It is almost beyond belief that such a work would be released as the civilized world pauses on the 50th anniversary of D-Day to reflect on the horrors which Hitler's Germany and her allies inflicted on the world," Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the center's associate dean, said in a statement. "The notion that any element of an important political party in any democracy would sanction and promote Nazi tactics poses a fundamental threat to that very democracy."
No Comment by Party
