why are there only 12 models of humanoid robots in Battlestar Galactica?

seems like a really retarded premise
they have ultra high technology, can make spaceships and humanoid robots, but can't change the physical features of their robots? so they have to mass produce the same 12 models over and over again?
maybe this is a future plotpoint but seems really dumb

Why would they? They can send 10,000 6's to various places, nobody is going to say, "Hey, wait a minute, you look a lot like some chick on some other planet and you both look like some chick on the other side of this planet, you must be a robot." Nobody even know prior to the events of the miniseries that skinjobs were even possible, in the absolute worst case scenario two of the same model can play it off as them being twins or just looking alike. They would have made more if they needed to or they were bumping into problems of the same model running into each other; they obviously didn't need to, because their plan worked to near-perfection. Having successfully obliterated nearly the entire of humanity with a 12 model approach, there's just 50,000 of them left and now the population is too small to slip in newbies.

You're Monday Morning Quarterbacking the greatest victory in human (cylon) history. I could understand your point if the cylons were ineffectual or their clones were constantly getting caught-- aw, geez, those faces are burned, let's make new ones. But they weren't and they didn't, 12 is all they needed to win. Think of it as machine logic if you like, a human might spin out a thousand different models because hey, look at how cool this stuff is. The machines got up to 12, saw it was working, and just kept going because there was no need to make more.
In their *current* context sure it would be nice to infiltrate the fleet with more, but they're victims of their own success; any newcomer is going to be treated with such suspicion that it isn't viable for them to be a sleeper agent.
