like the goal was to set up a landing zone/hub, but something went wrong, and the plan had to be abandoned. that would make a lot more sense than the official story.

this kind of thing was quite common during the vietnam war. air assets would move into an area then quickly move out if the 'LZ' was too 'hot.'
