British historian Philip Ziegler, with access to the private letters and diaries, concludes the relationship:
was to endure until Edwina Mountbatten's death: intensely loving, romantic, trusting, generous, idealistic, even spiritual. If there was any physical element it can only have been of minor importance to either party. Mountbatten's reaction was one of pleasure....He liked and admired Nehru, it was useful to him that the Prime Minister should find such attractions in the Governor-General's home, it was agreeable to find Edwina almost permanently in good temper: the advantages of the alliance were obvious.[15]

so this guy was Britain's version of MacArthur? I never heard of him before watching the Crown. Got the vibe that the speech Mountbatten gave to Parliament was similar to MacArthur's speech to Congress.

In The Crown, Lord Mountbatten left 500 pages of directions as to what he needed at his funeral, together with having Prince Charles do a studying. The funeral takes place on 5 September 1979 at Westminster Abbey.
Verdict: True
While it may not have been precisely 500 pages lengthy, Lord Mountbatten did depart detailed directions about his funeral. He started planning the funeral, codenamed Operation Freeman, in 1971 and regularly reassessed the preparations. The final overview occurred in March 1979, simply months earlier than his dying.
