frontier model companies are calling for mandated english chain of thought in all models, for "transparency" and "safety." except english CoT is a post-hoc rationalization and does not actually correspond to the model's internal workings, so i don't know what the fuck these people are talking about. i guess this is to hamstring up-and-coming competitors from passing the entrenched frontier companies while they try to monetize what they already have as much as they can

it will be relatively simple for you guys with shitlaw outfits to build yourself a wrapper and run your practices with like 10% of the overhead costs that you currently have

You could make a network arbitrarily deep before it generates a token and it could be doing all sorts of crazy computation that doesn’t have any similarity to the thought sequence. The intention here seems to be to prevent recurrent neural networks that could think for a long period of time, but there seems to be no realistic way to prevent someone from building one.
