It has the most detailed account of the period of events leading up to his suicide in April 1994. Great book. “Come As You Are: the Story of Nirvana” was written before Cobain died but the author had direct access to Cobain, which makes it unique. “Serve the Servants” was a recent Cobain book written by Danny Goldberg, the band’s manager. Not much new in it and it sort of reads like a puff piece. There’s a Nirvana book by Everett True I haven’t read yet that I’d like to. I also think a Courtney Love autobiography would be really interesting to read re Cobain if it ever happens. |

No band really made anything meaningful or impactful when it was happening (and fuck off with any pro Green Day or RATM bullshit takes you might have on this subject). But I strongly suspect he would’ve hated social media generally, cancel culture specifically, corporate embrace of DEI, and glorification of tech CEO autists.
There’s no way he would’ve lived that long, though. Even if he’d gone to rehab and made it through the 90s an opioid overdose before 2010 was a virtual certainty for that dude. I guess I kind of wish he’d lived to see the day when there was a fuckton of heroin sitting behind the counter of every pharmacy in the country. |
