I hate fucking collectibles as a general thing. But pretty silver and rare coins make me get all tingly inside and cause genuine excitement. I cannot help myself.
I know this makes me a huge fat fag, but whatever. I fucking love silver.
I got these bad boys for about $70/piece.

Now I have graded examples of great looking dollars that are only ms62. This helps tremendously. These Morgan Dollars are real faggots in the coin collecting world because e eye on likes them and they’re a mountain of unc ones out there because they mostly sat in bank vaults for 70 years and never circulated. But that all being said, if you don’t know what you’re doing in the Morgan dollar world they’ll take your shirt in a heartbeat.

If you actually like this kind of stuff, kick boring/overpriced US coinage to the curb and engage in higher pursuits like 16-17th century talers.
All the graded stuff is propped up by reg set marketing and the "conditional rarity" market will go the way of commems after the 1980s "investment" boom.
There's really cool stuff out there that's objectively rare (and affordable), but not in modern coinage... and certainly not in US coinage. Buy a few type examples and move on.

I started out in US coins like every other American. You learn, develop your interests, and find a pursuit to match your goals.
I loved EAC, but what's the point in collecting something that's already been done? Why bother when I don't have the requisite 8-figures to spend on a world-class collection?
Coins have been around for thousands of years. Don't let the US market scare you away from a fun, affordable, and meaningful hobby.
I recently picked up a unique 15th century variety pedigreed to the mid-1800s (auction catalogs & primary references) for $558.
For your next purchase, buy a book or two and learn about what's out there. After a while, you'll look back at US coins -- and their price tags -- and just laugh.

Struck 124 years ago in 1900 at the New Orleans Mint. Just remarkable.

Problem-free examples are very hard to find, and their price tags will be significantly higher than damaged coins.
Unfortunately, this isn't limited to dollars or US coinage. IT plagues the taler market and is common to minors as well.
Lots of nice bust & seated examples are out there, but they're likely going to be slabbed & at an auction house like Heritage or Stack's. They're better than spending money on common Morgans, but the price is too high for me personally.
