1970's-1990's pop culture artifact: the 'divorce-core' album

Date: June 12th, 2026 7:52 PM Author: ,.,..,.,..,.,.,.,..,.,.,,..,..,.,,..,.,,. there have been albums about divorce both before and after that period, obviously, but it peaked as boomers took over the music scene and began divorcing each other at rapid rates. everyone from phil collins to kenny loggins to fleetwood mac made albums about their divorces; sometimes several.
one of the more interesting ones was the 1982 self-titled album by songwriter Bill LaBounty, who went through a catastrophic divorce at the age of 28 and apparently got wiped the fuck out financially. the album cover is a photograph of himself at age 29; you can see the kind of stress he must have been under:

the album wasn't a huge success. it had some moderate radio hits, but it has made a bit of a comeback in recent years. unlike other divorce albums, it doesn't sound particularly angry or sad or anything else; it almost seems a bit numb.
