imagine what these people look like

https://www.reddit.com/r/AmIOverreacting/comments/1rcjwgn/aio_for_leaving_my_two_year_relationship_over_a/

My boyfriend offered to make me breakfast and ended up lying about giving me a dirty dish

Yesterday my boyfriend (24M) offered to bring me cereal before he got ready for work. We’ve been going through a rough couple of months, so I thought it was a nice gesture and said yes.

For context: I only eat out of disposable paper bowls/plates. I’ve had sepsis before, and since then I’m extremely cautious about cleanliness and bacteria. He knows this. When we moved recently, I got rid of most of my dishes and bought two cheap plastic bowls for him to use. I personally don’t use them.

He asked what cereal I wanted and I said Cocoa Pebbles. He brought me a bowl in one of those plastic Walmart bowls. I asked where he got the bowl from (dishwasher or cabinet). He said it was from the cabinet and that he “rinsed it.”

I took one bite and immediately felt something was off. Then I noticed he was eating cereal too, also out of a plastic bowl. I asked where his bowl came from. He said it had been sitting in his room from when he ate cereal about a week ago, and that he “just rinsed it” before eating.

That alone upset me. Milk and cereal sitting for a week isn’t clean, and I couldn’t understand why he’d willingly eat from that. It also made me uncomfortable because if he’s okay eating from a dirty bowl, how can I trust what he gives me?

I asked him directly if my bowl came from his room too. He said, “No, I would never do that to you.” Even so, I was grossed out and poured the cereal out.

We argued because he kept saying it wasn’t a big deal, that I was overreacting and dramatic, and that my bowl was clean from the cabinet. He left for work.

After he left, I went into his room. I remembered that the day before, I had taken a video of his room during an argument about him prioritizing gaming over cleaning. I watched the video again and clearly saw two blue plastic bowls in his room with dried cereal stuck to them.

That meant both bowls were already dirty before that morning.

I immediately called him. He ignored multiple calls. I texted him saying I knew he lied and that I was extremely upset. When he finally answered, I was crying and told him that he knows I would never eat from a dirty dish, and that it felt disgusting and hurtful that he would give me one and then lie about it just to get credit for “making me breakfast.”

He continued to deny it, saying the bowl was clean and that I was crazy and overreacting. When I told him I had proof from the video that both bowls were dirty in his room, he hung up on me.

I’m not even as upset about the cereal as I am about the lying, the gaslighting, and the complete disregard for something he knows is a serious boundary for me. I took the rest of the night to myself to calm down and think, and I’m now seriously contemplating whether I should leave this relationship.

Am I overreacting? Is this something he can learn from or is this relationship doomed. I added screenshots of the two bowls from the video I took.

to be fair serving someone food in an unwashed bowl that just had two week old milk and cereal in it isn't pointless. however this woman is 100% a disgusting hambeast herself.
