Do some research on gd or read that book about Lazards or the collapse of Lehman to see how pay is structured. I've got buddies who were in pretty nice positions at big hedge funds (making about 175k a year), got laid off and are now workign as VP's at big banks.. They have ugly wives, live in shitty apartments, are super nerds, smell like curry and make about 200k a year. 200k gross is just 120k a year. I really don't see the glamor in being a 'banker'.
Cherish life, don't do shit you hate. Most of the Indian nerds you meet are pretty good at what they do though. Switching fields to law, it's amazing how many people want to be big law partners. I'm almost positive that 99.95 % of you haven't seen big law partners literally suck dick to get clients. It's absurd to see it in person. They really are high end prostitutes except high-end whores charge more (3-4k an hour )
I've worked with several associates at the 'prestigious' firms (not the Accenture/PWC BS. High end shops) complain about their student loans and how they want the wives to become dentists/become CFA's to help pay bills. Northwestern undergrad, HBS, vacations every year while in undergrad, etc..
If I were a hiring partner at a firm and I was sorting through the potentials I'd look at two things. Do you have a book/connections you can bring into the firm, do you fit into either the rain making group or will you be a cog that will crank out the hours and do as your told.

But 275k of debt is like $69K a year. Can anyone explain? Am I missing something? |
