bought a lot, got a dealers license, the whole works. My JD has been 100% useless in my life. I should have done this right out of undergrad.

your jd degree allowed you to think outside the box and own your own business in the Garden State, hopefully Bergen county if you like the eye-talian pussy.

yep. I've been working with other dealers for about 18 months now. It's definitely a harder business than I thought it would be and there is a learning curve, but compared to a life in shitlaw there is no contest.

I just want a subaru and they keep their value pretty well so buying used seems kinda pointless

New is a waste of money. There are so many cars out there with 25-35k miles that have basically mint interiors that you can get 8-9 years of service out of with no problem and that need no maintenance off the lot that going out and buying new is just throwing money away.

e.g. a new subaru outback lists at like 23k and a two-year old model with 20k miles goes for 18k... Doesn't seem that significant

so say you buy new for $21k, and used for 17k.

that's 4k + tax savings of roughly $1,600 (tell the dmv you paid $100 for the used car)

total savings: $5,600

yep. and if you're afraid of mechanical problems, just spend $1,500 for an extended warranty (make sure it's backed by the manufacturer). you would've given that money to the dmv for nothing anyway. and you still come out ahead by $4k+.

extended warranty? Is this different from getting a certified used car?
