Okay, so i will be headed to Northeaster cause i didnt get into BU/BC. How much of a disadvantage will I be in the Boston job market when firms compare me to BC/BU gradates?
Thanks

if you kick ass your first year and transfer to BU/BC, then hardly any disadvantage at all.

Northeastern is a fine school. Go there, do well, and you'll get a job in Boston.
I know only one graduate of the law school. She is a good friend, and she is now an associate at Bingham McCutchen.

A few years ago they had a major 'glory hole' scandal. Seems a lot of men's lavatories on campus had to be completely renovated.
Also note that Northeastern borders Fenway Park.....

If you're in the top 10% and on law review you'll no doubt be summering with a good firm. I don't see why big law would dip below that level when there are BC and BU grads for the taking (not to mention that some from HLS will stay in Boston, and students from other law schools will be trying to get in).
Otherwise, 10 person firms and the suffolk district attorney's office will start looking pretty good.

Quick question for drooler. You seem to be pretty informed so i thought i might ask you this. I am not sure if you are aware that Northeaster does not have rankings or Grades (personal evaluations) so being in the top 10% is literally impossible therefore I dont think your advice is valid. I guess I am just going to have to work extremely hard and meet the appropriate people through my coops, would you agree with this point?

I do recall hearing that Northeastern doesn't have grades. For some reason, I thought that meant your system was just honors, pass, fail like yale or boalt (which means top 10% would be the people with mostly high passes).
If you really have no grades in law school at all (or law review and journals), I am guessing firms will ask to see your undergraduate transcript. I know that when I interviewed as a 1L during the fall before grades were out, firms asked to see my UG grades instead.
That said, as you seek post-graduate employment, the experience you had during coops will largely dictate the type of employers who will look at you. If you do your coops with a 6 person family law firm, big law is not going to look at you. If you do your coop with a respectable firm and with prestigious judges, you stand a better chance.
You should check out a copy of "Guerilla tactics for getting the legal job of your dreams" by Kim Walton. You'll learn alot about the importance of networking for jobs, which apparantly is a strength of Northeastern Law. You can start networking as early as now to land the job you want out of law school.

No, actually the school is very well respected within New England, and Boston in particular. I have several friends who went there, worked exceptionally hard, and both got summer associates for 2L and job offers for the next year -- at very, very, good firms. It all depends on what the student is going to do. If you are staying in Boston, and are going to work hard enough to be at the top of your class (and you can, even without grades, law firms still ask for your transcript, and professors use key phrases to indicate how you did, plus assistanships only go to the top students) you can get a good job and you will be fine.
However, one caveat. I really think there is no point going to NEU unless you are seriously interested in public interest law. That is what the school is noted for and that is what the emphasis of the program is on. (Which anyone who is considering the school should already know...) The school is very liberal, as is the student body, and the focus of co-ops tends to be public service. Although, like I said I had two friends land law firm jobs and make good salaries... It's just not the norm that most students there want to pursue. So if you want to make a lot of $$$ you will be the odd man at the school and that can be good...and that can be bad...depending on what you are trying to achieve.

boston is an extremely competitive market. too many schools, too many outside students from top schools, too few firms. going to BC/BU you'd better be top-25% for a good boston job. northeastern/suffolk/NESL - top-5% will do.
best chance of a boston job: do reasonably well at a top-10 school and have ties to the area. or go to harvard.

There's fair amount of representation from NU in Bosotn. Go to firms' websites and look up the schools that lawyers went to. i think you'll see quite a few that went to NU.
