An old friend of mine from high school called me at 4 am today to cry. She is a very adventurous person. She is the type of person that sets off to Europe for a 4-day trip through Ireland or Paris at a moment's notice. We have met up every now and then, about once every two years or so. We hang out, reminisce, and check out stand-up comedy clubs (that is our thing).
I was going to ignore the incoming call, but I saw the name. I figured that she probably lost track of time and wanted to wish me a happy Xmas. I answer: "Hey ___. What's up?" I just hear "CCSpecial. Do yo have a second?" I say, "Yea, why?" I sit up on my bed, with my back against the headboard. She just starts to talk about how she doesn't want to be alone. I guess she met some guy while visiting Prague, and the guy had a family. She told him to leave, but this isn't the first time it has happened to her. I think she has a horrible selection process. I am not sure why.
She asked if she can come to my place for New Years. I told her that I was going to be busy, but that she is welcome to come if she wants. (She has a horrible relationship with her mother, and her father has been gone since she was 5. Her mom has a severe gambling and drinking problem, and they always get into fights over money.)
Now, I kind of don't want her to come. I am hoping to fly back home for New Years, but now I have this old friend visiting. Can I just tell her that I didn't realize that I had this return trip planned?
