I think if I become more confident and if I stop giving a fuck about everything I'll become extremely happy.
How do I make this happen? My personality is geared against these things on an almost fundamental level. I need to change it.

I actually do have a fair amount of acceptance and whatnot in my life. Socially I did pretty well in high school and I probably had an above average amount of friends, reputation, grades, accomplishments, etc.
I guess the big issue is that no matter where I get I'll always be able to look outside and see that someone else is always doing better.
I feel like the people who do the best don't really give a shit about praise or acceptance and go out and just do.

Yeah exactly.
Whenever you read up on people who are extremely successful it's clear they just did shit because they wanted to do it or were good at it.
Like Terrence Malick dropped out of a PhD program in philosophy because he didn't feel like fighting with one of his professors over a translation of Hegel's work or something. So he just jumped ship and said fuck it and made movies. Then he made like one really good one and decided to quit. Then 10-20 years later he rolls onto the scene again and everyone is sucking his dick trying to get a role in The Thin Red Line.

autotelic behaviour requires moral confidence though, which requires acceptance. you need to feel accepted as you are, ironically, apart from your achievements. only then you can you actually achieve excellence because you're doing what you want to do. this is why it's far easier in life to be attractive, for instance, from the get go. look at musicians, who are typically pretty good looking. or actors. they know they will always be wanted on some level so they don't have to go playing to others. how many successful people had parents who are artists and academics? i'm not just talking about successful artists and academics. this seemed to be a trend when i was wiki-ing people. their parents are 1) highly educated and can provide the environment for a good education, and 2) confident in their knowledge that loving what you do is the best motivator, so they encourage love of activity in their children. tiger moms might have successful children but they become bitter, neurotic assholes

That's the weird thing. My parents aren't that successful and work prole jobs but since day one my father has stressed to me the importance of doing something that you are passionate about. Most people generally view me as very attractive as well.
I guess the two biggest issues are that I'm not extremely charismatic and I don't have any real passions anymore, so it's hard to find something to do because I find inherent value in it.
That's kind of the reason I made this thread, though. If I stop caring what other people think and whatnot I genuinely believe I will be more charismatic as a result. It's a Catch-22 in that case, though, since there is an ultimate goal/end to not giving a fuck in the first place, which makes it kind of impossible.

The real problem in this world is that everyone who is not an ideal person (smart, good looking, talented) thinks they can fix the issue with their moral confidence by working hard. Its not the case. The lack of internal motivation or apathy is strictly because that person sees no benefit in the long run. I mean this is fucking SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST right here. Do everything in your power to extend your legacy and power to your descendants, its the endgame.
I don't believe that an autotelic person can really exist in this world. Someone who finds interest in an activity and does it for their personal enjoyment (other than drugs) is committing fraudlies by perpetrating this myth. These 'autotelic' fraudliars do an activity because it has a benefit that is not necessarily something that has material worth. Autotelic fraudliars participate in artistic, sporting and fitness activities because they are predominantly social pursuits. Since dumb people judge others by how they look, good luck being a musician if you don't look good. Good luck running those laps alone lol. I'm sure you care about your fitness or your musical ability more than you care about your ability to stay sane after having no human contact in months said no one ever.
Reminder that GW Bush has a double digit IQ and ran a country for 8 years. Do you think he thought very hard about the things he wanted to say? Do you think he deserved to be el presidente? Lol no, he just appeared chill and good looking. Just do 'doomed before you were born' bro.

Alcohol
Percocet
Exercise / sports / yoga (if you are seriously into this you should try jivamukti yoga - they are more hardcore, crazy vegans, but if you want to get introspective you will be better off there than with the rando aerobics instructor-retooled as yoga master-at your neighborhood gym)
Hobbies
Reading
Journaling or therapy
Cultivate your interests and your health. Be open minded. Give everyone a chance or even a second chance.
