The ceiling was as a dry desert floor, the deep fissures and ruptures extending off into the forever distance. Panic took him -- visions of the capital of the known world crumbling into dust. He staggered, caught himself against the moss-stained slickness of the wall, drew forth the words through rapid breath: "How many know of this?" Johannes' whispered reply: "Only the two of us." He leaned in close to the man, returning the whisper: "Good. Tell no one else. No need for panic. We have to come up with a plan." |
